Concern for the ongoing safety of our students, faculty, and staff is paramount at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). The University supports and encourages international travel, collaborations, and recognizes that a global perspective is a critical component of its academic mission. Also, UTSA realizes that some areas of the world present heightened health and safety risks.

To minimize health and safety risks, UTSA has adopted the UTSA Travel Procedures to Restricted Regions to govern student, faculty, and staff travel for university related activities abroad. The International Oversight Committee (IOC) administers these procedures under the direction of its chair, the Vice Provost for International Initiatives and Senior International Officer (Vice Provost).
The UT System has charged the UTSA International Oversight Committee with evaluating any proposed university activity or travel to areas in which the U.S. Department of State has issued a Travel Warning, or where significant health and/or safety concerns are present.

The committee is charged to closely review and recommend to the Vice President of International Initiatives the approval or disapproval of all requests for exception to travel restrictions to areas listed on the UTSA Restricted Regions List.
The U.S. Department of State also maintains a travel resources web portal.
